SHILLONG: The Meghalaya Unit of the BJP has denied the allegation leveled by its former leader E.D. Marak that BJP leaders were indulging in corruption.

In a joint statement issued here on Wednesday, BJP leaders Khlur Singh and Dipayan Chakraborty termed the allegations as unfortunate saying that baseless allegations were being made by Marak who is a former Speaker of the Meghalaya Assembly.

Terming the allegations as illogical and an act of personal grudge, the BJP leaders said that the party members do not take any unilateral decision and it is the president of the party who along with his team decides on any issue.

The statement further clarified that Nitai Baksors had contested the Assembly election in 2013 from Tikrikilla constituency. “The BJP did not contest the seat in 2013; so asking any bribe from the applicant is irrelevant,” the statement said.

The joint statement blamed Marak for trying to damage the image of the party and its functionaries in the State for his own personal gain.

“It is regrettable that E.D. Marak is desperately trying to tarnish the good image of the party by quoting the name of our national president Amit Shah for his own selfish and mischievous motive,” the statement added.
