TURA: Garo Hills police have taken into custody a woman for allegedly transferring funds to the ASAK militant outfit for subversive activities in South West Garo Hills district even as her husband has fled the scene to join the rebel group.

The A’chik Songna An’pachakgipa Kotok (ASAK) outfit which was formed by a group of GNLA cadres who broke away from Sohan D Shira to set up their own group has called for a boycott of the upcoming Independence Day celebrations in Garo Hills.

Ampati police arrested Dikme D Shira after intelligence reports revealed that she along with her husband, Chesrang D Sangma alias Jannath and also known as Goran, had been transferring funds to ASAK leaders and at the same time withdrawing money received from the group for purchase of weapons.

“Most recently she withdrew money to the tune of fifty thousand rupees and her total transaction for the outfit has come close to two lakh rupees,” informed Garo Hills police.

The money from the rebel outfit was reportedly handed over to her by senior ASAK commander Jack Marak.

Following these developments Ampati Police raided the house of the accused but her husband managed to get away.

He had previously been arrested for supply of arms and ammunition to rebels and security forces were on the lookout for him after he published photos of his two young sons brandishing a pistol and a hand grenade on Facebook.
