Demand for Science, Commerce streams, ITI in Mawkyrwat

SHILLONG: The KSU Mawkyrwat Circle has demanded opening of the Science and Commerce stream in Sngap Singh Memorial College or any appropriate institution in Mawkyrwat to ensure upliftment of the education system in the newly-created South West Khasi Hills District.

“The Government should open up the two streams at the earliest for the best interest of the student community of the district,” KSU Mawkyrwat Circle president Forward Nongrem stated in a three-point of charter of demand submitted to Deputy Chief Minister in charge Education, R.C. Laloo, here on Monday.

The other demand of the Union includes setting up of District Institute of Education/ Block Institute of Education and Training and Industrial Training Institute in the district.

Expressing concern over the rise of unemployment problem in the district, Nongrem observed that the government should set up an ITI at Mawkyrwat so that educated unemployed youth can avail alternative means of livelihood. He also expressed concern over the delay in the construction of BIET at Sakwang village.
