NONGSTOIN: Following the alleged indifferent attitude of the State Government to revalidate the merit list for the appointment of DSC passed candidates (2010), the Association of West Khasi Hills DSC passed candidates has threatened that its members will go on an indefinite hunger strike in front of the West Khasi Hills Deputy Commissioner’s office from Wednesday.

The decision was taken in a meeting of the Association on Saturday.

The Association had placed its demand for revalidating the merit list before the Chief Minister in July but seeing no signs of a positive outcome, the DSC candidates took the decision to go on an indefinite hunger strike.

The Association also claimed that the Chief Minister has denied them appointment to discuss the issue on several occasions. It also alleged that during their meeting with the DC on Friday last, the latter gave no assurance that their demands would be met.

General secretary of the Association, R Sun said that they had already made several approaches to the DC and urged him to consider their demand, but all that fell on deaf ears.

“The DCs in other Districts have revalidated the merit list of the candidates. In this circumstance, we have no choice but to go on a hunger strike till the government pays attention,” Sun said.

The Association also approached NGOs of West Khasi Hills into intervene in the matter.
