SHILLONG: Acclaimed film maker and environmentalist, Mike Pandey, on Monday appealed to the students of the State to make attempts to heal the wounded environment.

Interacting with students of Martin Luther Christian University (MLCU) here on Monday, Pandey said that ‘since the earth is in trouble, everyone needs to make efforts to heal it’.

Pandey said that the earth as the ‘Mother of all mothers’ has nurtured mankind for thousands of years and the need of the hour now is to help the earth as it is in desperate need of assistance.

Pandey also said though human being has a voice, there is another world which does not have a voice, and added, “I urge you to use your voice and help the world that has sustained us for so long,” Pandey said.

Terming human beings as the weakest species on earth, Pandey said that man learns to walk and talk at a slower pace than other species on earth, but it is the mankind which is exploiting the earth the most.

Two films of Pandey – Shores of Silence: Whale Sharks in India and Vanishing Giants – were screened at U Soso Tham Auditorium followed by an interactive session between the Director and the students. The screening was organised by MLCU’s Department of Environment and Traditional Ecosystems in collaboration with the NSS unit.

The session was held in the presence, MLCU Vice Chancellor Robert G. Lyngdoh, Registrar Donald D Ingty, and Pro Chancellor G.C. Kharkongor.

Around 400 students and faculty members of MLCU and from other colleges attended the screening.
