JOWAI: A local court has sentenced a person to 10-year rigorous imprisonment (RI) for raping a minor girl.
The District and Session Judge B Giri passed the judgement on Thursday convicting one Lidar Shadap of Lumbhah-Dakha.
It was on June 2013, Lidar (32) raped 13- year old girl at Wahiajer. Lidar was arrested by Jowai Police and booked him under section 376/511 IPC along with Section 6 of the Protection of Child from Sexual Offence (POSCO) Act.
Pronouncing the quantum of sentence on Tuesday, the District and Session Judge stated that Lidar Shadap was awarded 10-year RI with a fine of Rs. 5000. “If he fails to pay the fine, the RI term would be extended by another 3 months,” the judgement said.
Earlier, in June this year, the District and Session Court here awarded a 10-year of RI to one Sadon Jamatia of Saudagar village, Tripura for kidnapping and raping a minor girl in Jaintia Hills.
