Two bodies found
Aizawl: Two bodies were found last night within Rangvamual area on the road between Aizawl and Lengpui airport, Aizawl superintendent of police Lalbiakthanga Khiangte said here on Tuesday.
Khiangte said that one of the bodies was identified as a man from Mizoram-Manipur border Khawpuar village who was missing since Sunday after going to Rangvamual village to buy local liquor and suspected to have fallen off the road in an inebriated state. He said that the other body was identified as a Manipuri who used to be working in the illegal manufacturing of illicit local liquor in the village and the highly decomposed body was sent to the Aizawl Civil Hospital for autopsy to determine the cause of death. Four arrested, timber seized
Morigaon: Four persons have been arrested and huge quantity of illegally felled timber seized by a joint team of forest and police officials in Assam’s Morigaon district, official sources said here on Tuesday.
Acting on a tip-off, a joint team of forest and police officials intercepted a truck carrying sal timber illegally felled from the Dharamtul forest at Silchang under Nellie police station of the district late on Monday night. The four persons involved in the smuggling of timber attempted to escape but the police gave them a chase and apprehended them. The seized timber was worth more than Rs five lakh and the arrested persons have been remanded to judicial custody on Tuesday. (PTI)
Special Handloom Expo at Dimapur
Kohima: The Nagaland Handloom and Handicrafts Development Corporation Limited would organise a Special Handloom Expo at Dimapur town from September 9 to 22.
In a press release, Managing Director of the Corporation Hokiye Yeputhomi on Tuesday said the Expo has been sponsored by the Office of the Development Commissioner (Handloom), the Union Ministry of Textiles, New Delhi. (UNI)
Nagaland to have SDRF
Kohima: Home Commissioner and Chief Electoral Officer Jane Alam on Tuesday said that Nagaland will soon get the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF), which would be an essential force to this disaster-prone state.
Talking to UNI on the sidelines of a function at the Secretariat Mr Alam said presently six companies from Nagaland Police had been selected for the SDRF. They will get training from experts of the National Disaster Response Force(NDRF) from Guwahati. (UNI)
KCCI calls off closure of shops
Kohima: The Kohima Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KCCI) which was protesting police action on common people and shopkeepers of Kohima on August 19, called off its proposed indefinite closure of shops in Kohima on Tuesday.
KCCI president Kesao Kesezie and General Secretary Vitsu Vizo said it called off the indefinite closure of shops in Kohima with the police tendering a public apology. (PTI)
