SHILLONG: The High Court of Meghalaya in its August 28 order on the case related to the alleged sexual harassment of NEHU professor AK Das against a research scholar of the University, directed that the disciplinary proceedings of NEHU will be subject to the outcome of the writ petition filed by Das.

“Thus it is directed that the proceedings in question shall be subject to the outcome of this writ petition,” the Acting Chief Justice Uma Nath Singh said.

The counsel for the respondent (University) was granted two week’s time to file reply and the matter has been listed for September 11.

Earlier, the Counsel for the petitioner said that the disciplinary proceedings as recommended by the Women cell of NEHU were scheduled for August 28.

The Counsel for the petitioner also contended that the Chairperson of Women Cell, which has recommended to institute disciplinary proceedings, has been appointed as the Inquiry Officer which may cause serious prejudice to the petitioner.

On Wednesday, normal functioning of the oldest Central University in the northeast region was hampered when several thousand students staged a protest march demanding sacking of the Mathematics department professor.
