SHILLONG: A dominant display by Shillong United saw them earn the First Division football title on Saturday after handing Laitumkhrah a 3-0 loss.

Laitumkhrah proved threatening early on, creating several chances, but failed to convert.

Sushil Meitei was the first to score with a beautiful lob two minutes after the break.

Tajuddin’s impressive form continued, with the forward contributing a goal in the 79th minute to further increase United’s chance of heading towards the title.

Shillong United defender Vanlalzuia directed a wonderful long range shot that richocheted off the crossbar, allowing Tajuddin to tap the ball in.

Laitumkhrah’s final blow came when they forced a penalty in the 88th minute. Sonam Sherpa’s shot found its way into the goal to hand Shillong United a 3-0 win as well as the title.

Both teams will feature in next year’s edition of the Shillong Premier League.

In a Third Division match, Nongmensong and Sawmer drew 1-1. Sanmer took the lead in the 22nd minute when S. Marbaniang scored. However, Nongmensong equalised ten minutes later through K. Mynthong.

On Monday, Mawshbuit and Lummawbah will play the next Third Division match at 4:15 pm at Polo Grounds.
