Faleiro arriving on Friday

SHILLONG: With the dissident group hoping for the arrival of a senior Congress man from Delhi, other than the AICC general secretary in-charge Meghalaya Luizinho Faleiro, to discuss the issue of change of leadership, the tussle in the Congress party is likely to linger on.

The former Chief Minister SC Marak, who is supporting the cause of the dissidents, has already made it clear that an ‘impartial’ leader should be sent to the State by Congress High Command to assess the ground reality.

While the loyalists of the Chief Minister Mukul Sangma are hopeful that Faleiro would be able to end the crisis by calling the CLP meeting, the dissident camp considers Faleiro’s visit as a routine trip and believes that it has nothing to do with the present crisis.

Questions are being raised by the dissidents as to why CLP was not convened by the Chief Minister on several occasions to understand their grievances whereas the CLP has now been convened by the Chief Minister during the visit of AICC General Secretary.

Congress leader SC Marak recently said that he did not remember Chief Minister convening CLP meeting to address the various grievances of the Congress legislators.

He had also said that proper discussions in the regular CLP meetings should have helped in addressing various concerns of the Congress legislators thereby reducing the tension.

Action sought against Salseng: Congress party chief whip in Meghalaya Assembly R V Lyngdoh has sought action against former chief minister SC Marak for questioning the integrity AICC general secretary in-charge Meghalaya Luizinho Faleiro.Lyngdoh on Tuesday said that the statement of Marak was against the practice and convention of Congress.

Seeking disciplinary actions against Marak, Lyngdoh said, “We will urge the party high command to discipline such leaders in the interest of the state and people. We are to focus on the responsibility vested on Congress party in fulfilling our promises to the people.”
