Shock treatment for MUDA employees

SHILLONG: MUDA is back in the news, this time for the resignation of two of its senior officers who are unhappy with the directive of being asked to sit in the parking counter to assist in the collection of the parking fees.
The two employees who have put in their papers were holding the post of Social Development Specialist (SDS) and Research Officer (RS) .
It is reported that the SDS was getting a salary of Rs 50,000 while the RS was getting a salary of Rs 30,000.
According to sources, the SDS and RS had resigned on Monday.
As per the order issued by MUDA Secretary Tableland Lyngwa on August 16 last, the staff working in the capacity of PA, UDA, LDA, SA and Stenographers have been directed to sit in the parking counter and assist in the collection of the parking fees.
Defending this decision, MUDA chairman Ampareen Lyngdoh had said that this initiative was long over due since there are many employees in MUDA who are at a loose end.
“We need to understand that MUDA is already overstaffed. We just cannot pay salaries to them if they are doing nothing. One has to work to earn their salaries,” the Urban Affairs Minister said.
She also said this decision was taken to plug the leakage of funds generated through fees collected at the parking lot at Khyndai Lad.
