SHILLONG: Laban Bengalee Boys’ Higher Secondary School on Saturday celebrated its 91st foundation day with a special function held on the school premises.

On the occasion, President Pranab Mukherjee sent a message greeting the Principal, staff and students of the prestigious city school.

The School was established by the Bengalee community residing in Laban in 1923.

“The School is essentially a social institution. It is intimately related to the society,” president of School Managing Committee, S.K. Chattopadhyay, said while speaking at the function.

Former Education Minister and patron of the School, Manas Chaudhuri, lauded the contribution of the School towards the growth of education in the State.

“I will also like to appreciate the efforts of the School Managing Committee for maintaining high standards both in the field of education and co-curricular activities,” Chaudhuri said.

He said that Laban is a cosmopolitan area and this institution reflects the locality itself “Pattern of an organized school is determined in the light of the ultimate goal of education to promote harmony in society. With this vision, the School also carries forward an academic environment with secular approach and brings social good irrespective of community and caste,” the former Minister said.

Principal of the School, Rinku Bhattacharjee, said that 2013 had been the ‘most eventful year’ for the School with several students from the Secondary and Higher Secondary (Science and Commerce) bringing laurels for the School.

Vice-principal of the School, Reeta Ghosh, was the recipient of this year’s National Teacher’s Award, which was presented in New Delhi on September 5.

On the occasion, the School magazine Sangbikshan, was formally released by the guests.
