Lankan navy damage 100 fishing nets
Rameswaram(TN): Sri Lankan Navy personnel allegedly attacked Indian fishing boats and damaged more than 100 nets near the International Maritime Boundary Line in the early hours Sunday, fishermen association representatives said here. Fishermen, who ventured into the sea in 618 boats, had to return empty-handed Sunday morning as the Lankan navy had deployed its vessels, including two ships with cannon and machine guns, much inside Indian waters and refused to allow them even near the IMBL, Fishermen’s Association president T Sesuraja and Secretary S Emiret alleged. The naval personnel allegedly attacked the boats and snapped more than 100 fishing nets around 2 AM. They said if the government was not able to provide protection, they could at least provide them some other employment, they said. Fisheries department officials, speaking on the condition of anonymity, said most of the fishermen and boats returned empty-handed Sunday. (PTI)
Hyderabad belongs to everybody, says Venkaiah
Hyderabad: Union Urban Development and Parliamentary Affairs Minister M Venkaiah Naidu Sunday said Hyderabad is a robust city which belongs to everybody. “Hyderabad has the power to attract people from different corners of the world. It has that specialty. It would be enough if those in government do not disturb that power. It will go ahead further if encouraged,” Naidu said. Hyderabad belongs to all and all those residing in the city have equal freedom, he said while laying the foundation stone for the Institute of Company Secretaries of India (ICSI) Centre for excellence here. On the occasion, he said things are looking up on the economic front in the country with the first quarter of the current financial year April-June 2014 clocking 5.70 per cent growth in GDP. The growth is highest in two-and-a-half years. (PTI)
Ajit Singh says he will vacate govt accomodation by Sept 25
New Delhi: A day after the Union Government cracked the whip by disconnecting power and water supplies to the official accommodation of former union minister Ajit Singh, the Rashtriya Lok Dal leader on Sunday said he will vacate the accommodation by 25th of this month. “I have lived here for 36 years. My father (late Chaudhary Charan Singh) moved here in 1978 and thereafter there are so many things I have to sort out before moving. 11th August, I got the notice and I move out on 24-25 September. I do not think its unreasonable,” he said. Singh also said that he has found a house and signed a lease as well. “I found the house and we have signed the lease also. So, when they came on 9th, I informed them that I have signed the lease…… But now its ‘Pitru Paksh’. So as soon as its over in about two weeks or so, I will go,” the former civil aviation minister said. The government had yesterday disconnected power and water supplies to the official accommodations here of former union ministers and ex-MPs including Ajit Singh, Jitendra Singh and Mohd Azharuddin who refused to vacate the premises. Explosives seized in Bihar
Munger: A large quantity of explosives were today seized from a forest near Bhim Bundh in Bihar’s Munger district, a police officer said. Acting on a tip off, a team of security forces led by CRPF Deputy Commandant Gunjan Kumar carried out a combing operation and seized 2,000 kg of ammonium nitrate contained in 40 sacks weighing 50 kg each, Superintendent of Police Varun Kumar Sinha said. The explosives were hidden under a heap of leaf, he said. (PTI)
