NSCN detention centre busted

Guwahati: A ‘detention centre’ of the NSCN was busted by security forces in Dimapur during an operation in Half Nagarjan area.
Based on a specific information, two individuals were found tied by heavy chains around their ankles and confined under most inhuman and despicable conditions, a defence statement said here. They were identified as Rinthar Tangkhul (36) of Manipur and Chuba Ao (25) of Nagaland.
These detainees informed the search party that the ‘Detention Centre’ was being run by six military wing cadres of NSCN (IM), led by ‘captain’ Hoito Sumi.
These cadres who were present in the house were apprehended, and they confirmed that they were NSCN(IM) cadres, the statement added.
The ‘Detention Centre’ has been in existence for seven years and was used as a base for carrying out extortions, abductions, kidnappings, collection of ransom apart from serving as a place for illegal confinement and is carried out in Dimapur by NSCN(IM) under the code name ‘Operation Acceleration Dimapur Town’ headed by ‘Lt Col’ Nagaho.
During the search’, a number of incriminating documents were found which include illegal tax collection slips, work permit cards, vehicle documents of individuals from whom money was being extorted and details of target businessmen. (UNI)
