India settle for bronze in women’s team badminton

INCHEON:India settled for the bronze in badminton women’s team event after going down to hosts South Korea 1-3 in the semi-finals here today.

Barring Saina Nehwal, none of the shuttlers could prove their mettle as PV Sindhu, PC Thulasi and the duo of Sikki Reddy Nelakurthi and Pradnya Gadre failed to win their respective ties.

While Saina convincingly defeated Jihyun Sung 21-12, 10-21, in singles match 1 of the semi-finals taking India to 1-0 over the hosts, her Hyderabadi teammate PV Sindhu could not maintain the lead and lost 14-21, 21-18, 21-13 to BAE Yeonju.

Korea extended their lead to 2-1 in the doubles match as Sikki Reddy Nelakurthi and Pradnya Gadre lost 21-16, 21-17 to Kim Soyeong-Chang Yena.

Kim Hyomin completed the formalities beating PC Thulasi 21-12, 21-8 as the hosts sealed the tie in their favour and took an unassailable 3-1 lead. (UNI)
