TURA: The adviser to the Meghalaya Chief Minister Friday Lyngdoh on Thursday reviewed the implementation and achievement of flagship and other programmes at Williamnagar, East Garo Hills. Former Deputy Chief Minister Deborah Marak, was also present for the meeting.

“Flagship programmes had been introduced by the government to eradicate poverty, illiteracy and diseases,” said Lyngdoh. “However, it is pertinent to have regular review meetings in order to assess the progress of the schemes in the particular area,” he said.

Former MLA, Deborah Marak informed that government wanted to know the problems faced by the department which the committee can directly recommend to the chief minister.

According to the presentation of various flagship programmes implemented in the district, it highlights the advancement of the scheme. However, there are certain constraints faced by most of the programmes like frequent power cuts, change of contractual staff, no internet connectivity in the blocks, etc.

Distance to the bank is one of the major problem faced by the beneficiaries which is also delaying the transfer of funds in most of the schemes as IAY, etc.

Implementation of PMGSY scheme is being hampered by shortage of manpower. Moreover, the Executive Engineer PWD (Roads ) is handling five such schemes which is very difficult to manage.
