NPP calls for Roshan’s resignation

SHILLONG: The National People’s Party has demanded the resignation of Home Minister Roshan Warjri in the wake of the firing incident in East Jaintia Hills which led to the killing of two persons.
The NPP in its emergent meeting held at Tura condemned the brutal killing in East Jaintia Hills and demanded that the Home Minister should take moral responsibility for the incident.  The party also demanded a judicial enquiry into the killings.

MPHRC demands judicial inquiry

SHILLONG: The Meghalaya Peoples Human Rights Council (MPHRC) has slammed the indiscriminate firing by the police personnel at Wapungskur village in East Jaintia Hills that led to the death of two persons and injury to several others.
MPHRC chairman Dino Dympep demanded a judicial inquiry by a sitting judge of the Meghalaya High Court into the incident.
“The perpetrators of the crime should be arrested without delay and punished stringently,” Dympep said while adding that it is high time replace live ammunition with rubber bullets to avoid fatal injuries to those targeted.
The MPHRC also appealed people to observe restraint.

Headmen’s body condemns incident

SHILLONG: The Synjuk ki Rangbah Shnong (Village Headmen Association) of border areas under South West Khasi Hills District has condemned the recent police firing in East Jaintia Hills that left two persons dead.
The headmen’s body on Friday slammed the MUA government for allegedly not adopting precautionary measures prior to the economic blockade called by the MIPRL.
President of the Synjuk, Jupiter Nongtnger expressed shock over the incident. He said that the Synjuk extended its support to the agitation spearheaded by MIPRL.
