7-month-old rescued as mother tries to sell him

Hyderabad: A 7-month-old boy was on Sunday rescued when his mother allegedly tried to sell him apparently because of poverty, police said.

Based on a information that a woman was attempting to sell her baby for Rs 1 lakh, police immediately reached the spot in Alwal area and foiled her bid.

The baby was rescued and handed over to the officials of Women Development and Child Welfare (WD&CW) Department, Alwal police station inspector S V Hari Krishna said.

“The woman, identified as Shailaja (30), seems to be mentally disturbed. Due to poverty she made an attempt to sell her baby. Her husband was also called in,” he said. No one has been arrested in this connection, he said. Further probe is on. (PTI)
