SHILLONG: The CSWO has appealed to the HNLC to call off their 24-hour-bandh to be effective from the evening of October 1 in view of the Durga Puja celebrations in the State.
In a statement issued here on Sunday, CSWO president Agnes Kharshiing said that the Hindus of the State, who have also contributed to the welfare of the society, should be given room to practice their faith.
Stating that the Hynniewtrep people are known to be a peace loving and respectful towards other faiths which is in line with the Christian spirit, Kharshiing said the bandh would give a chance to antisocial elements to create disturbance affecting the common man of the State in the process.
“We urge, that in the move towards a peace talk, the HNLC should set a good example and show respect for others so that goodness prevails, and people appreciate the endeavour for real peace,” Kharshiing added.
The proscribed HNLC has called a 24-hour bandh starting from 6 PM of October 1 to protest the killing of two people in East jaintia Hills besdies opposing the observation of International Day of Non-Violence.
