Floods, landslides toll up to 52

SHILLONG: The dead toll in the devastating flash floods and landslides in the State rose to 52 on Sunday with the recovery of one more body from Balalggri village in South West Garo Hills.

In addition, three persons from Menadoba village in North Garo Hills Districts are reported still buried under landslides and bodies are yet to be recovered.

NH-37 is reported to be open for light and heavy vehicles late on Sunday, while NH-62 is open for light vehicles only.

NH-51, AMPT Road, Tura-Baghmara Road, Shillong-Nongstoin-Williamnagar-Tura Road, Damra-Dainadubi-Mendipathar Road and Paikan-Resubelpara Road are open to all types of vehicles. However, Resubelpara-Mendipathar Road, Baghmara-Maheshkhola Road, and Williamnagar- Mendipathar Road are still closed.

Power supply has been restored in most places barring Baghmara. Power supply in Resubelpara is likely to be restored shortly.

Water supply to Baghmara, Resubelpara, Nongpoh and Byrnihat remains disrupted and alternative arrangements are being made through water tankers and other temporary measures to supply water.

Stock of medicines and medical personnel are adequate and there has been no report of any outbreak of epidemics.
