SHILLONG: East Garo Hills Police on Sunday recovered the body of a 15-year-old girl Richina N Sangma from inside a forest located 5 km away from Williamnagar. The girl had been reported missing since Sept 28.

Police informed that the post-mortem had to be done on the spot since the body was in a highly decomposed state.

Police had arrested the father of the girl, Rashu N Marak, following an FIR filed by the mother on October 3.

In the FIR, the mother had suspected that her husband was responsible for her daughter going missing.

Interestingly, the father had filed an FIR on the same day when the victim had gone missing.

In the FIR, the father had claimed that he had taken his daughter for medical check-up at Williamnagar Bazar. When she complained of dizziness, the father hired an auto-rickshaw to take his daughter home since he had to meet some person in the bazaar, he claimed in the FIR.

“However, on reaching home I found that my daughter had not reached home,” the father stated.

When contacted, East Garo Hills SP Davis N.R. Marak said that police have not yet been able to identify the accused.

“We have arrested the father but we have no evidence as yet to prove his involvement in the crime,” the police official stated.
