SHILLONG: At a time when the examinations are fast approaching, it is a tough time for the students whose text books, school bags, school uniforms, and other study materials washed away by flood waters and landslides.

The newly-formed All Garo Hills People’s Forum of North Garo Hills is taking an initiative to help the needy people in the district.

The NGO discussed the fate of students who are studying in Class X, Class XII, and BA 1st year who have to appear their selection tests which is imminent.

A delegation from the organization met the North Garo Hills Deputy Commissioner recently and raised the issue of special consideration to the flood-affected candidates to allow them to appear only in the final examination. An appeal was also made to the Deputy Commissioner to send the official information to all heads of the institution under the district.

Besides, mark sheets, admit cards, EPIC, birth certificates and other documents were also lost due to the disaster. The district authorities and the Block Development Officers should write a recommendation to release from different issuing authorities through respective Village Headman/ Sordar at the earliest, the NGOs said.
