Pankaj Advani wants Ranbir to star in a biopic on him

Bangalore: At a time when sports biopics seem to be the flavour of Bollywood, ace cueist Pankaj Advani said he would like to see one on his life as well starring current heartthrob Ranbir Kapoor as the rising actor is very “intense” and has played the sport himself. “I know Ranbir Kapoor plays the game a bit. He used to play in Khar Gymkhana, Bombay (Mumbai). So, someone like Ranbir Kapoor can actually pull off a great job playing me on screen. He is very intense also as we have seen him in Rockstar,” he told here on Saturday. The ace cueist also lavished praise on Bollywood director Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra for making “Bhaag Milkha Bhaag”, a film based on the life of sprint legend Milkha Singh. “It is great that a movie like Bhaag Milkha Bhaag was made, which portrayed the character of Milkha Singh in depth,” he said. He also praised the effort put in by actor Farhan Akhtar, who played Milkha Singh’s character in the film. “All actors would not be able to do that. Not everyone is a Farhan Akhtar,” he added. Talking about about his sport and the upcoming World Billiards Championship starting from October 20, Advani said he has been preparing and working hard as it is the biggest tournament. “It is the biggest tournament in billiards. So, I have been preparing and working hard. I am looking forward to it and I am excited,” he said. (PTI)

F1 to make key changes after Bianchi smash

Sochi: Formula One has learned lessons from Jules Bianchi’s life-threatening crash in Japan and will make key changes to improve safety, two of the sport’s leading figures said. Jean Todt, president of the International Motoring Federation (FIA), and the ruling body’s race director Charlie Whiting made this clear during a briefing in the paddock late on Friday at the inaugural Russian Grand Prix. The two also revealed more details of the terrible accident in which the 25-year-old Frenchman’s Marussia car crashed into a recovery vehicle at the conclusion of the rain-lashed Japanese Grand Prix at Suzuka on last Sunday. Film of the two accidents involving Bianchi and Adrian Sutil, who acquaplaned off the circuit at the same Dunlop Curve one lap earlier, were shown. In the collision, Bianchi suffered severe head injuries including a diffuse axonal injury to his brain. Whiting, who is in the process of completing a full report of the accident, explained that the FIA wanted drivers to slow down more during such incidents. (PTI)

Suarez back in business, Japan edge Jamaica

Paris: Luis Suarez returned for Uruguay for the first time since his infamous World Cup biting shame and helped the South Americans to a 1-1 friendly draw against Saudi Arabia. The 27-year-old Barcelona star’s shot from an angle on 47 minutes in Jeddah came back off the far post before hitting Hassan Muath Fallatah for an own goal. Suarez was replaced with 20 minutes to go but his hopes of a winning international return were ruined by Naif Hazazi’s last-minute equaliser for the former Asian champions. Although still serving a nine-match competitive international ban for sinking his teeth into Italy’s Giorgio Chiellini at the World Cup, Suarez is allowed to play in friendlies. Suarez, whose club ban ends in two weeks when Barcelona face bitter rivals Real Madrid, could have scored just before coming off when he pounced on a dreadful back pass. But with only goalkeeper Waleed Abdullah to beat, he tried to dribble past the shot-stopper and was tackled. “Happy to wear this shirt again, gives me so much joy. Love the shirt. Uruguay!!,” tweeted Suarez after the match. (PTI)
