SHILLONG: West Jaintia Hills based Meghalaya People’s United Front (MPUF) has alleged large-scale manipulations in the implementation of MGNREGS at Nongkynrih village in the district.

In a petition submitted to Chief Secretary P.B.O. Warjri, MPUF president D. Wanmi Laloo alleged that the ex-secretary of Nongkynrih VEC was involved in the misappropriation of funds meant for the Scheme.

Laloo claimed that the West Jaintia Hills Deputy Commissioner, in an order issued on September 9, had directed the ex-chairman and ex-secretary of Nongkynrih VEC to refund the misappropriated amount to the tune of Rs.90,417 within a period of one month.

However, Laloo, quoting RTI reports, claimed that the amount which was misappropriated was Rs.4,41,150 and further stated that the ex-secretary VEC was involved in misappropriation of the funds and the ex-chairman had no involvement in the same.
