New Delhi: With some relaxations on the extracted coal, the coal mine owners of Meghalaya are hoping that export of coal from the State to Bangladesh will resume next month.

This was disclosed by a 13-member delegation of the Meghalaya Mine Owners and Exporters Association in a meeting with the Sunamganj Chamber of Commerce and Industry on Monday.

The State Coordination Committee of Coal Owners, Miners and Dealers Forum’s Meghalaya unit general secretary Sonny L Khyriem led the team, sources said on Tuesday.

The National Green Tribunal (NGT) of Meghalaya on May 17 had banned coal mining, acting on a petition by an environmental organisation. The mine owners appealed with the same tribunal against the ban but the plea was turned down on Oct 7 but they were allowed to transport already extracted coals with some conditions.
