30-member State team attend youth exchange programme in Kerala

Kochi: In a bid to foster unity, understanding and rapport and to bridge the gap among the youths of the country, the Meghalaya Government through the Directorate of Sports & Youth Affairs, in collaboration with the Nehru Yuva Kendra Sangathan, Meghalaya Zone, organized a Youth Exchange Programme in which 30 youths from six districts of the State attended the programme in Kochi, Kerala, from October 11-15.

The team, accompanied by escorting officers Bobby Wahlang and K.R. Nongbri met Kerala Chief Minister Oomen Chandy at the Don Bosco Youth Centre and showcased the rich culture heritage of Meghalaya by performing traditional dances and songs from the State. The team also participated in the International Book Fair & Cultural Fest 2014.

The state team also met the local MP and MLA and interacted with them after which they visited Sacred Heart College and interacted with students from Meghalaya and other Northeastern states who were pursuing their higher studies in the College.

The state team was also involved in the youth programme on the occasion of World Disaster Reduction Day and performed Flash Mob along with local club members.

The state youths visited Vasco de Gama Church, Chinese Net, Jewish Synagogue, Navy War Museum, Mount St. Thomas, Mataanchery Dutch Place and enjoyed a boat cruise in the backwaters of Kochi.
