SHILLONG: Police arr-ested a person from Tripura on Saturday for allegedly kidnapping and raping a minor school girl in city.
East Khasi Hills district police chief M Kharkrang said that a minor girl was kidnapped while she was on her way to school on Friday.
However, later in the evening the girl returned home and reported that she was taken by one Rajesh Bir (28) from Tripura to a guest house in Rilbong and raped her.
As there were indications that the accused would try to escape to Tripura, all tourist bus stands were put under police surveillance to prevent his escape, Kharkrang said.
Ultimately, he was arrested near Civil Hospital while he was waiting for a Tripura-bound bus.
