NONGSTOIN: Members of the Hynniewtrep Youth Council (HYC) on Thursday visited the three persons who were injured during a clash between two communities at Mawdiangsnam village near Langpih on Wednesday.
During the visit, the HYC members observed that two of the three were seriously injured in the incident.
Narrating the sequence of events that transpired that day, one of the victims alleged that people from a particular community armed with “dangerous weapons” attacked the locals while they were repairing the road from Mawdiangsnam to Langpih.
The vicitms further claimed that seeing the onslaught, the unarmed Khasi villagers decided to flee from the scene. However, in the excitement, two of them, Pynshaibor Syiem Nongbah and Welfus Snarshonggre, were caught hold of and beaten by the attackers. Later, Snarshonggre was taken to a Assam Police Outpost nearby but he was soon set free after villagers of Mawdiangsnam demanded his unconditional release.
Nongbah and Snarshonggre were taken to Nonglang PHC but later shifted to Nongstoin Civil Hospital.
Following the visit, the HYC slammed the Langpih Police for repeatedly failing to protect the locals.
