Non-Gandhi can be Cong chief : PC

New Delhi: In a statement that is bound to kick up a controversy, Congress leader and former Finance Minister P Chidambaram on Friday said a non-Gandhi can be the party president in the future.
In an interview to a TV channel, Chidambaram, however,said Congress president Sonia Gandhi is presently the numero uno in the party.
“A non-Gandhi can be Congress president in the future. However, as long as Sonia Gandhi is Congress president, she is numero uno,” Chidambaram told NDTV.
Chidambaram said,” Mrs Sonia Gandhi is the most acceptable Congress leader.
“Party vice-president Rahul Gandhi is the most acceptable amongst the youth.”
In the interview, Mr Chidambaram urged the top leadership of the Congress to be more communicative about the party’s agenda.
“The Congress’ morale is low. The party leadership needs to respond urgently.
“I would urge Mrs Sonia Gandhi and Rahul to speak more to media and public,” Mr Chidambaram said.
He said there was an urgent need for a reorganisation in the Congress. (UNI)
