GUWAHATI: Police and the Army have launched an intensive search operation to trace the Executive Director (ED) of Assam Oil Division (AOD) of Indian Oil Corporation Limited (IOC), Kaushik Bora who went untraced on Sunday after he had gone out in his private car from his official residence at Digboi Refinery township towards Pengeri in Tinsukia district of eastern Assam.

A senior police official supervising the operation informed that the family members of the senior IOC official had filed an FIR with Digboi police station at around 4 p.m. when he did not come back till then and went incommunicado. His car was later found parked by the road at Pengeri area. Police is trying to ascertain why the senior IOC was using his private vehicle instead of his official vehicle with the driver entitled to him and why he had gone towards Pengeri instead of his office inside the refinery township.

Bora was recently promoted to the rank of Executive Director and was supposed to take over the charge from the retiring ED effective from January 1 next.

The Pengeri area which is about 20 kilometers away from Digboi Refinery Township is known as a bastion of the outlawed ULFA insurgents. The family of the official had not received any phone call demanding ransom so far. Police investigation is on.
