IGPP for N-E conservation group, Aaranyak

Guwahati: A frontline environment and wildlife conservation organization based in Northeast India,

Aaranyak has been selected for conferring the prestigious Indira Gandhi Paryavaran Puraskar (IGPP) for the year 2012 by the Ministry of Environment, Forest & Climate Change, Government of India.

The award is given to organisations/ individuals for outstanding work towards protection/overall improvement of the environment. Aaranyak has been given the award under Organization category.

The award carries a cash prize of Rupees 5lakh along with a Silver Lotus Trophy.

Aaranyak’s secretary general Dr Bibhab Talukdar informed that the Union Ministry of Environment and Forest has informed about it in a letter (dated October 27, 2014) addressed to Aaranyak’s president Ranjan Bhuyan. Aaranyak has been working in the fields of conservation of wildlife, protection environment, water and climate since 1989. It is also recognized as a Scientific and Industrial Research Organisation (SIRO)

by the government of India. Aaranyak is also a member of the IUCN.

The organizations runs various programmes like Environment Education and Capacity Building Programme, North East Threatened Species Conservation Programme covering key species like elephant, rhino, tiger, river dolphin etc. Community Based Conservation Programme, Water, Climate and Hazard Programme, Geo-spatial Technology Application Programme, Wildlife Genetics Programme.
