Swachh Bharat Mission programmes held in Umsning, Nongstoin

NONGPOH: The Swachh Bharat Mission Umsning Team B organized an awareness programme on sanitation on October 31 at Mawlein Mawkhan village in Ri Bhoi District.

The awareness programme was well attended by residents of villages including Lumsohphoh, Lumsohpetbneng, Mawlein Mawkhan and Sumer, along with school children.

During the programme, officer from different government departments shared their views on the importance of sanitation for the community and the society.

Resource persons including Block Coordinator Umsning A, O.B. Rani Umroi PHE Junior Engineer Kynsai Kharbuli, Beckin K Syiemiong, Garlanding Sun, Nongpoh PHE Executive Engineer, D.D. Umdor and Umsning PHE Executive Engineer, E. Lamare, spoke on various topics during the programme which was presided over by Amberlight Masharing.

Later in the day, a community pledge on cleanliness was taken followed by a cleaning drive at Mawlein Mawkhan.

In Nongstoin, the Nehru Yuva Kendra organised the first phase campaign of Swachh Bharat Abhiyan on Oct 31 to coincide with the Birth Anniversary of Sardar Vallabh Bhai Patel. The programme was held in collaboration with NSS unit of Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya, Nongpyndeng (Nongstoin).

The programme started with the ‘Run For Unity’ in which the students and NSS volunteers participated.

After that, a seminar was held on the topic ‘Importance of Cleanness’.

Several guests spoke on the importance of cleanliness and highlighted the need for regular cleaning of houses, villages, towns, streets and roads.
