GSWSS deadline rescheduled

Laloo seeks status report of Phase III

SHILLONG: Deputy Chief Minister in-charge PHE department Prof RC Laloo has sought the status report of the Greater Shillong Water Supply Scheme (GSWSS), Phase III.

Informing this here on Tuesday, he said that he would visit the project site after studying the status report.

“I want to have firsthand information on the progress of the project,” Prof Laloo said.

He said that the project is now scheduled to be completed within March next year.

“We have to re-scheduled the deadline since there are numerous factors which has led to the delay in completion of the project,” the Deputy Chief Minister said adding that the department will take all possible measures to see that the project is completed within the rescheduled timeframe.

When questioned on reasons for the delay in completing the project, he said there were several reasons including the demise of the contractor, who was awarded the work.

Meanwhile, Deputy Chief Minister said that the department was trying to augment water supply and also adopting measures to reduce wastage under the Phase III.

Prof Laloo said that several areas including Pynthorumkhrah would be covered under the Phase III.

Further, official sources informed that phasee III of the GSWSS would provide upto 135 litres of water per head per day for a population of 5.12 lakh.
