TURA: The Garo National Liberation Army (GNLA) has denied its hand in the recent abduction of a school teacher from Riangdim in Khasi Hills district. “The allegations of police inculpating our organisation in the abduction of one Nikhil Sangma of Reangdim Khasi Hills, a village bordering South Garo Hills is erroneous. We did not serve any demand note nor was there any attempt to abduct him on October 31,” the Joint Publicity Secretary of the outfit, Garo Mandei Ch Marak said in a statement.
The militant leader on the other hand pointed out the possibility of the kidnapping being the handiwork of two of its former cadres, Kobith Ch Marak alias Jongmen and Benith N Marak alias Skylance who deserted the camp with two AKs along with 8 others on October 27.
It is worth mentioning that the school teacher, Nikhil Sangma was allegedly kidnapped by unidentified militants on October 31 for which the police had blamed the GNLA. According to them a demand note had earlier been served to Sangma.
