SHILLONG: A State Para-Legal Volunteer (PLV) from Sohra has been awarded as the best PLV in the country for ensuring justice accessibility to all.

The PLV, Ksanboklang Kharshiing, received the national award from Chief Justice of India Justice H.L. Dattu on Sunday for his relentless efforts to provide legal care for more than 100 villagers in Sohra.

Kharshiing has set up a legal care and support centre in Sohra with the assistance of the Meghalaya State Legal Services Authority.

The award was presented to Kharshiing for his efforts in addressing the problems of the local people by way of bringing them to the notice of the Government.

He also volunteered to help people in preparing applications for obtaining old age pensions schemes, ST certificates and EPIC cards.

The Para-Legal Volunteers under Meghalaya State Legal Services Authority act as intermediaries, bridging the gap between the people and the legal services institutions to remove impediments in access to justice.
