SHILLONG: Transport minister HDR Lyngdoh believes that in the aftermath of NGP ban it is the responsibility of police to check illegal transportation of coal. Speaking to reporters here on Tuesday, Lyngdoh said there were only a few inspectors in Transport department. “In that case it is the duty of police to check illegal carrying of coal through highways,” he said.

In line with the NGT committee ruling on the transportation of coal, he said that the transport department has called for tenders to set up weigh bridges to legalise transportation of coal as there are only two weigh bridges one at Dainadubi and another Umling at the moment.
