SHILLONG: The State Government has earmarked 80 acres of prime land in New Shillong for development of an integrated IT Park.

This was revealed by Chief Minister, Mukul Sangma at the meeting on Initiatives for Development of Electronic System Design and Manufacturing (ESDM) sector in the country held in New Delhi on Monday.

Addressing the gathering, Sangma also stated the Centre should give attention to large, medium and small Information Technology (IT) industries especially for the North Eastern Region while deciding on the future policy initiatives for the growth of IT in the country.

It may be mentioned that the State Data Center and State Wide Area Network at Shillong was inaugurated recently with the purpose of starting a pool of services to enable citizens to avail of services more comfortably.

The Chief Minister also stated that the state is ideally positioned to use ICT as a catalyst for all-round economic prosperity and social uplift of its people.

Impressed with the over all IT scenario, the State Government is also planning to promote appropriate applications of ICT to rejuvenate and strengthen the primary, secondary and tertiary sectors of the State’s economy and improve the standard of living of the people.
