SHILLONG: The North East Regional Institute of Education (NERIE), Umiam, Meghalaya, is organising the third and final six-day training module designed to strengthen research capacities in the North Eastern region from Monday.

This follows the success of the first two modules held in November 2013 and June 2014.

In the first workshop participants from research institutions across the Northeast region developed 10 research proposals for projects aimed at improved understanding of local issues affecting secondary education.

In the second workshop they pilot tested their data collection instruments, collected and analysed pilot data and wrote reports of their findings. Since then, the teams have improved their data collection methods and have collected a larger set of data.

The third module focuses on ‘Report writing and Advocacy’. The outcomes of this module will be 10 complete final reports, 10 concise articles, 10 PowerPoint presentations, and 10 policy briefs.

The findings from these studies will provide necessary data to inform policy and practice based on contextual needs.

Dr. Lok Nath Sarma, Director, SCERT, Assam, felt the need for more contextualized research studies as the group is dealing with teachers. Being teacher-educators, there is a greater responsibility of finding solutions to local problems of schools and helping teachers for better transaction in the present school system, he said.

This research training programme is being led by NCERT and MHRD in collaboration with Rashtriya Madhyamik Shiksha Abhiyan – Technical Cooperative Agency.
