SHILLONG: The Techno Global University, which was officially set up six years ago in the city, is yet to take off.

During an inspection conducted by the members of the HYC Mawlai Circle, it was found that the rented house near the Shillong Polytechnic from where the university is supposed to function was under lock and key.

No one was present in the premises except the chowkidar and class rooms and offices wore a deserted look. Even the building was in a sorry state.

While talking to newsmen after the inspection, HYC Mawlai Circle president Donboklang Kharlyngdoh said, “It is shocking to see that the university which was set up six years ago is yet to start functioning.”

He said that now the question is why the state government had allowed this kind of university to come and operate in the State.

“We have seen how CMJ University has managed to dupe so many people. We fear that this university might indulge in similar activities by playing with the future of the students,” HYC Mawlai Circle president said.

Kharlyngdoh demanded that the Government should constitute an inquiry to find out if the university had awarded degree to any students despite being non-operational.

It may be mentioned that State Government had passed the Techno Global University Bill in 2008.
