SHILLONG: In a resolute fight back, Royal Wahingdoh rallied to beat Nangkiew Irat 4-2 after being down by two goals in an Imperial Blue Shillong Premiere League match at JN Stadium here on Monday.
Nangkiew threw away what could have been a substantial victory after taking a two-goal lead by the 53rdminute. Stephen Harry was the cause of Wahingdoh’s misery early on as he struck in the 6th and the 53rd minute to put Nangkiew comfortably ahead.
Harry headed in a corner to score his first while his second was a result of an uncalculated pass by Wahingdoh keeper Bishorjit Singh. Singh’s pass allowed Harry to place an easy ball into the net.
However, Royal Wahingdoh skipper Lalchhawnkima built hope for his side with a 62nd minute goal to reduce the deficit. Three minutes later, Jackichand Singh made it 2-2 with a scorcher that flew past Nangkiew Irat’s goalie.
The Royals went into the lead in the 85th minute through Lalchhawnkima’s header following a free kick. Seityasen Singh finished things on a high for Wahingdoh with a stoppage time lob into the net.
The win puts Royal Wahingdoh in third position (25 points) ahead of Rangdajied United (also at 25 points) by way of goal difference while Nangkiew Irat is out of the top four.
