Police Act amendment Bill okayed

SHILLONG: The Cabinet has approved the Meghalaya Police Amendment Bill, 2014 which will pave way for the appointment of a fulltime member-secretary in the State Security Commission (SSC).

“We will amend Section 36 1(f) of the Meghalaya Police Act, 2010 for the purpose,” Home Minister Roshan Warjri told newsmen after a Cabinet meeting here on Tuesday.

According to her, this decision was taken to make the SSC more effective. A police official of the rank of the Additional Director General of Police (ADGP) or above will be made the member-secretary of the SSC.

Assistant Labour Commissioners

The Cabinet has also approved the amendment of the Labour Service Rules for creation of the posts of the Assistant Labour Commissioners in the four new districts.

“The proposal was approved by the Cabinet after a thorough deliberation,” Labour minister Ampareen Lyngdoh informed.

Identification of villages

In another decision, the Cabinet on Tuesday approved the proposal to identify the villages along the international border with Bangladesh which will be eligible for availing the various Government schemes.

“We have decided to conduct a fresh survey following a directive that the villages within a distance of 20 km from the Zero Line along the international border will be eligible to avail the Government schemes,” Border Area Development Minister Prestone Tynsong said.

The last survey was conducted in 1992.

Setting up of the Internal Social Audit Unit

Meanwhile, Tynsong, who is holds Community and Rural Development portfolio, informed that the Cabinet also approved the setting up of the Internal Social Audit Unit in the implementation of the MGNREGS in the State.
