London: Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger is ready to splash 45 million pounds on new players to strengthen his squad after Sunday’s humiliating Premier League defeat against Manchester United.

According to the Sun, Wenger, boasting an 80 million pound transfer war chest, has landed nine million pound German defender Per Mertesacker and two million pound South Korean striker Chu-Young Park.

He had already done a 6.2 million deal to bring Brazilian left-back Andre Santos.

However, a 22 million pound bid for French midfielder Yann M’Vila was snubbed, while there was no movement on a 12 million offer for winger Marvin Martin.

Wenger, who reportedly has a list of 20 targets, also made a double enquiry for Everton duo Marouane Fellaini and Mikel Arteta.

Meanwhile, Manchester City midfielder Samir Nasri reckons that Arsenal is not in a financially stable position to rectify their situation.

Nasri’s move earlier this month was the second significant departure from the Emirates this summer following Cesc Fabregas’ transfer to Barcelona.

“Arsenal remains a big club, but the building of Emirates Stadium changed a lot of things. It has changed the ambitions, so far. But it is not Arsene Wenger, it is the club’s politics, the officials,” the Telegraph quoted Nasri, as saying.

“Arsenal doesn’t have the same funds. They can’t make the same coups as before in the transfer market. They are rather forced to sell their best players and bet on young ones,” he added.

The 24-year-old said that he left Arsenal at the right time, as the club was no longer able to compete for titles. (ANI)
