NE actress Rajni becomes brand Ambassador of SVEEP

Leh:With a view to ensure maximum participation of voters in the Assembly polls in Ladakh, a popular north-east actress Rajni Basumatary has been roped in as the brand ambassador for Systematic Voters’ Education And Electoral Participation (SVEEP) campaign. “Rajni Basumatary on Friday became the brand ambassador of SVEEP campaign of Leh district in run up to the forthcoming Assembly elections which are scheduled for first phase in Leh,” District Commissioner, Leh, Simrandeep Singh told PTI. Rajani, an actress from the north-eastern part of India, who has recently acted in Bollywood movies like Mary Kom and Shaukeens, was approached by the Deputy Commissioner, Leh, Simrandeep Singh, to support the Systematic Voters’ Education And Electoral Participation (SVEEP) initiatives being taken by Leh administration for promoting voter awareness. “She accepted the offer and visited Leh district to participate in a few events for promotion of SVEEP”, Singh said. Rajni inaugurated the SVEEP programme with the screening of Mary Kom in the Sindhu Sanskriti Kendra, Leh. She also visited Spangmik, Man, Merak and Chushul polling stations at the China border, along the Pangong lake, and distributed the new smart Voter ID cards to the voters of the border areas.(PTI)

Nagaland Par Secy asks govt Schools to improve quality

Kohima:Nagaland Parliamentary Secretary for School Education Yitachu has urged the government schools to perform better as they have ‘quality and qualified’ teachers. Addressing golden jubilee celebration of Atoizu Government High School (AGHS), Mr Yitachu expressed concern that despite qualified teachers the schools performance was ‘very poor’ in comparison to that of private schools. He reminded the teachers that they were the architect of the society and that quality education would lead to all round development and breed good citizens. Extending warm jubilee greetings, he expressed profound joy for being a part of the historic 50 years golden jubilee milestone commemoration. Yitachu also pointed out that school education department has overtaken the police department as the largest department in Nagaland and had been recruiting the most qualified and best candidates as government teachers in respective levels such as — primary, elementary, high school, higher secondary and others.Exhorting the gathering on ‘Civic Sense, Unity and Oneness’, Mr Yitachu maintained that right thinking, action and cleanliness are all part and parcel of civic sense which he said plays a vital role in development or progress of the society. Private resolution of MNF member dismissed

Aizawl:Mizoram assembly on Friday rejected a private resolution moved by opposition Mizo National Front (MNF) member Dr K. Beichhua. The resolution seeks speedy repair works on the roads and bridges in the whole of Mizoram. Ruling Congress members, rejecting the resolution, said that condition of the roads in the state had improved a lot after the Congress came to power in 2008 and again in 2013. They said that the resolution merely intended to tarnish the image of the present government. The opposition legislators slammed the government for failure to maintain roads across the state saying that almost all the villagers were engaged in repairing roads voluntarily. They said that the need of the hour was that the state PWD should expedite repair of roads during the working season. (PTI)

Nagaland BJP suspends party member

Kohima:The Nagaland Unit of BJP, has temporarily suspended Mr Vekho Swuro from both primary and active membership following an emergency meeting on November 19 that charged him lfor breach of discipline. According to a note from the Office Secretary of BJP Nagaland Unit Lachit Kachari, the state unit, after thorough deliberation was ‘convinced and unanimously concluded that the charges levelled against Mr Vekho Swuro were ‘valid and proved beyond reasonable doubt’e. “The suspension order will remain in force till Mr Swuro gives satisfactory reply to the show cause notice. Failure to reply or give satisfactory reply within 10 days will invite further necessary disciplinary action as deemed fit under relevant Section(s) of BJP constitution,’ the release said. (UNI)
