SHILLONG: The State Government has allotted 80 acres of land at Mawdiangdiang for the construction of a new Assembly building.

Informing this here on Friday, the State Assembly Speaker AT Mondal said that a meeting of the High Powered Committee held on Friday approved the State Government’s decision.

“The Government has given us land and the HPC has given nod for the handing over of land to us,” Mondal said.

The Speaker said his main target would be the early completion of the new Assembly building which has been pending for the last 13 years after the old Assembly was gutted by fire in January, 2001.

“We are looking at availing funds for the construction of the Assembly and the Chief Minister assured that he would try his best in this regard,” Mondal said.
