SHILLONG: While the police are taking action against overloading in taxis and maxi cabs, the worry for the police is that there is stoic silence on the matter by the passengers, who otherwise suffer due to overloading.

In a continued drive against overloading by taxis during the week, Shillong Traffic Police initiated action against 118 vehicles including SPTS mini cabs and realized a fine of Rs.30,800.

“Surprisingly, the passengers did not bother to complain against such overloading and never objected to the drivers which actually encouraged them to overload,” East Khasi Hills Superintendent of Police M. Kharkrang said.
