Agartala: The Police Accountability Commission (PAC) of Tripura has asked Director General of Police (DGP) K Selim Ali and Chief Secretary Dr S K Panda to ensure security to a tribal woman of Tripura-Mizoram border area who had allegedly been molested by Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Khedacherra police station in North Tripura.

PAC issued notice to both DGP and CS yesterday asking them to submit report on police’s refusal to file FIR in Khedacherra police station, non-response of superintendent of police (North Tripura) even after a month of serving notice by the sub-divisional judicial magistrate (SDJM) and non-action against the accused police officer.

According to report, OC, Md Matin Mian along with two constables stormed the house of one Sanarung Reang, a mother of two children on July 29 last. The police personnel allegedly evicted victim’s 17 year-old brother from the house and molested her in presence of her children.

When the villagers assembled following the alarm raised by her brother the police personnel escaped.

The villagers accompanied the victim to Khedacherra police station to lodge a complaint but police refused it. Finally, the victim lodged complaint with SDJM and PAC.

Subsequently, SDJM had issued notice to SP (North) asking to conduct enquiry into the allegation but no action had yet been taken.

Meanwhile, PAC summoned the victim and her advocate attended the commission demanding security for his client till investigation was completed. PAC issued notice on July 25 last and asked DGP and CS to submit the investigation report at the earliest while expressed displeasure over police’s role in refusing FIR and non-response of SP on SDJM’s notice.
