State Education Policy only after Central policy’s launch

SHILLONG: The State Government is waiting for the Union Government to launch its new policy before announcing the State Education Policy.
Deputy Chief Minister in charge of Education, R.C. Laloo, while replying to a query from legislator K.P. Pangniang on the State Education Policy said that the policy was in its final stages but with the implementation of the Right to Education (RTE) Act, the Education Policy has to be modified.
“We are waiting for the Union Government to come up with its new policy before coming up with our own policy, Laloo said.
Earlier, Pangniang questioned the Government for not including Upper Primary and Secondary School under the deficit system to which the Minister replied that these schools could not be included in the deficit pattern due to fund constraints.
The Minister also made it clear that the State Government has not taken any decision to enhance financial packages to aided Secondary, Higher Secondary, SSA and RTE schools in the State.
He also informed that the Ministry of Human Resource Development had revised the salary of SSA teachers in April 2013.
Govt to exercise caution over provincialization of schools
Deputy Chief Minister in charge of Education, R.C. Laloo, on Friday told the Assembly that the State Government has adopted a cautious approach with regards to provincialization of schools in the State.
Replying to a question during the Question Hour on the last day of the Winter Session, Laloo said that the State Government has to ensure that the school managing body agrees to the provincialization since it does not want to get embroiled in legal tangles, with already several cases pending.
When asked about the appointment of teachers on contractual basis, the Minister replied that the State Government has made only ad hoc appointments.
