Guwahati: Congress stalwart and chief minister of Assam Tarun Gogoi has wasted no time in trying to
derive political mileage out of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s failure to announce any special assistance to Assam for dealing with some of its burning problems during his visit to the state.
Gogoi also accused Modi of making an about turn in respect of India-Bangladesh land swap agre-ement that was signed during the previous Cong-ress-led UPA regime.
Gogoi on Monday pointed out that Modi had virtually told the people of Assam that implementation of India-Bangladesh land swap agreement was needed to stop infiltration from Bangladesh “It means Modi and the BJP who opposed the Indo-Bangla land deal before Lok Sabha poll in tune with the popular opinion in the state about it, has now decided to take stand in favour of the land deal.
“The BJP is like a seasonal bird. It harps different tunes in different times,” Gogoi said taking a
dig at the ruling party in the Centre.  “ Though we had adequately apprised the PM Modi about the devastation caused by flood in the state this year and the perennial problem of river bank erosion, he failed to make any commitment or promise any additional Central assistance to tackle these problems of the State.
But the PM chose to ignore the problem during his visit, but he was prompt in provide generous assis-tance to flood-affected J-K and Andhra Pradesh,” Gogoi lamented.
