Shillong: The Urban Affairs department is contemplating to implement new signage in the city within three months.

Principal Secretary, Urban Affairs, P. Naik, has informed that the department would put up at least 300-400 signages in different parts of the city.

The Urban Affairs department contemplated the move after observing that most of the cross roads in the city do not have proper signage and in the absence of signage locating a particular address in the city becomes a herculean task. According to Naik, the estimated cost of the project would come to around Rs.20 lakh. The department will begin by introducing the signage in areas falling under the jurisdiction of the Shillong municipality while other areas would be covered in subsequent phases.

Fund for the project is likely to be sanctioned under the 13th Finance Commission.
