PIL on dual posts: HC defers hearing

SHILLONG: The Division Bench of the High Court of Meghalaya has posted the hearing on PIL against persons holding dual posts (MLA/MDC) after two weeks.

The matter came up in the Division Bench comprising Chief Justice (Acting) Umanath Singh and Justice T.N.K. Singh on Tuesday.

It was on November 3 last that the Court had asked the State Government to file an affidavit in response to the PIL seeking disqualification of eight legislators who are also holding the posts of MDCs. The State Government and KHADC are yet to file affidavits.

The PIL was filed by CSWO president Agnes Kharshiing in October end.

The PIL seeks disqualification of as many as eight legislators cum MDCs in Khasi and Jaintia Hills including Stephanson Mukhim, HDR Lyngdoh, Ardent Miller Basaiawmoit, Metbah Lyngdoh, Pyngshngainlang Syiem, Phlastingwell Pangniang, Sanbor Shullai and Brolding Nongsiej.

Sources informed that senior advocate V.G.K. Kynta will represent six legislators except Metbah Lyngdoh and Brolding Nongsiej in the High Court.
